Becoming like Christ for the sake of others

Drinking From the Saucer 11/24/15

“Thanksgiving is the enemy of discontent and dissatisfaction.”  Harry Ironsides

How true. Trust none of us will be grumpy on Thanksgiving. May we all pour lots of love into our family and friends on this special day. I want to wish you all a Very Happy and Contented Thanksgiving. And indeed I have many things to be thankful for, starting with you.

Peggy Hank: Has moved. She is currently at a new address which is:  Parkview Healthcare Center, 1514 East Lincoln Ave., Anaheim, CA  92805. If you could take a moment and perhaps send a card between now and Christmas I know she would appreciate it.

Prayer Focus This Week – giving thanks to God for all He has done in our lives. “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His loving-kindness is everlasting. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary.” Psalm 107:1,2

One of the men I admire most in my life is Dale Ghere. Dale and his wife Marilyn are founding members of our church, going way back into the 70’s. Talk about faithful. Dale has much to be thankful to God for, including his mother Maxine, who passed just a few days ago. Maxine enjoyed writing poetry, just as my mother did, and penned the poem below that speaks so beautifully of a full life.

Drinking From The Saucer

I have never made a fortune,
And I’ll never make it now,
But it really doesn’t matter,
“Cause I’m happy anyhow.

As I go along my journey,
I’m reaping better than I’ve sowed,
I’m drinking from the saucer,
‘Cause my cup has overflowed.

I don’t have a lot of riches,
And sometimes the going’s rough,
But while I’ve got friends to love me,
I think I’m rich enough.

I’ll just thank God for the blessings
That His mercy has bestowed,
I’m drinking from the saucer,
‘Cause my cup has overflowed.

If God gives me strength and courage,
When the way grows steep and rough,
I’ll not ask for other blessings,
I’m already blessed enough.

May I never be too busy,
To help bear another’s load,
Then I’ll be drinking from the saucer,
‘Cause my cup has overflowed.

Thanksgiving Morning:. A reminder that we do meet on Thanksgiving morning in the Upper Room from 8-9 am. You may come and go at any time during that hour. It is a completely open meeting. If you’ve never been, you’re invited. It’s a good way to start the day.

As some of you know, I love vintage art – Victorian, deco, nouveau – I just think it is the best. Like the postcard below.

May the God of grace and hope fill you with both this week.
