Becoming like Christ for the sake of others

She Loves Everybody 1/19/16

A really tough decision was suddenly no decision at all. And I knew it. Not going to be easy. Not at all. But it had to be made. My son Micah had just called and said, “You know dad, we are really having a hard time allowing Dylan to visit you because of the dog. We can’t trust Jasper. We’re really nervous.” I made the decision right then to take him back to the shelter.

Jasper tried to bite anyone who reached down to pet him. Nikki twice. Really went after my son. Attacked Mark my brother-in-law. Didn’t care for anyone but me. And so with a heavy heart I took him back last Wednesday, after only three weeks with us. One of the hardest things I’ve ever done but I couldn’t put my grandkids at risk, nor anyone else. Not for another second. It took me the rest of the week to get over it.

On Sunday we got a call about a Pomeranian puppy. On Monday we met the owner in Riverside and brought her home, a 2 ½ pound, 9 weeks-old, two-tone bundle of fur. Pixie is her name. Loves everybody. Took about 5 seconds to acclimate to our house. She’s soft and beautiful, mellow and charming, affectionate and playful. A perfect puppy.

I am so thankful to have such a wonderful addition to our family. Thrilled for everyone. There’s joy everywhere. As for me, I am going to miss Jasper. But I’m the only one.

Nikki is completely smitten. Haven’t seen her this happy for a long time.

A Couple of Needs….

  • Tricia Reis looking for babysitting jobs; very experienced; 6 months to 12 year-olds; let me know and I’ll forward to her
  • Steve and Michelle Doherty looking for a home in Laguna to rent
  • A ministry friend of mine has founded Mentor Me Ministries. He reaches out to fatherless kids in Orange County. He is looking for men, college age and above, who would meet once a month at Hart Park in Orange for a half-day of Frisbee, soccer, baseball, and other games with these needy boys. If interested, let me know. This would mean a lot to these kids.

Prayer Focus This Week…

  • Militant Islamic terrorism has come to within 200 miles of the Radach Center in Ghana and also missionary friends of mine, Bob and Nancy Schaefer, who are Wycliffe Translators, living near the center. Johnson Asare and the Schaefer’s are very concerned and have asked us to pray for them.
  • Denise de la Torre pursuing a specialized procedure for her lymphoma
  • Severe addiction issues among some adult children within our church or friends of our church
  • Pray for all 55 junior highers/youth leaders who just returned from Forest Home yesterday, that what God accomplished over the weekend would be sealed within their lives.
  • Pray for the church, that we would become all God intends and desires for us

Scripture of the Week: “For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous, with favor you will surround them as with a shield.” Psalm 5:12

So True: “The depth of our love is how much we forgive.”

May this be a week of great contentment for all of us. Contentment comes when we fully trust the Lord, no matter what the circumstances.
