The Passionate Embrace

You who would truly worship
must find the hidden door
leading to the place passionate
where tears caress the failures
of days regretfully lost

But grace allowed
a light to faintly show
places you never knew
times you least expected
when faith curled up like a little child

Reach out my thirsty soul
reach out so very far
beyond the constant barrier
of stilted, pandering self
usurping the presence of Elohim

Now I am called to leave
the halting deadly impasse
break free the stifling fear
loose every hindrance now
an invitation I hear

I reach the outer court
shofars blasting
shouted praises soaring
dancers gliding
in willowy dresses born in rhythm

The habitation of God is here
riding the roar of lofty voices
of arms raised toward Zion
but hearts are drawn for some
to chambers rarely seen

More intense than ever
The warfare of the spirit’s flight
passing through the entrance
of that realm called Holy
where joy anoints One so great

Beyond high praise I’ve moved
incense burns effusive
drifting up in romance
to Him whose untold beauty
our eyes have longed to see

Past the thickened veil
no separation now
I hesitate but shortly
am I worthy to go on
yes, Christ has made it so

I’m drawing ever near
stretched out in adoration
my full and trembling heart
it’s You, O God, it’s You
the Lover of my soul
