Becoming like Christ for the sake of others

The Power of God 1/23/18

“In Christ Jesus I have found reason for boasting in things pertaining to God, for I do not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me, resulting in the obedience of the Gentiles, in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit, so that from Jerusalem to Asia I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.” Romans 15:17-19

A week ago yesterday, Pastor Greg, who had been battling bronchitis, woke up struggling to breathe. Greg’s wife Michelle was out of town and Greg, knowing he was in trouble, somehow managed to drive his car to his doctor. X-rays revealed major lung concerns and Greg was told he needed to get to the ER right away. Before leaving, Greg contacted Deb DeSimone from our church who works at Mission Hospital.

Deb texted me the seriousness of Greg’s state and I immediately sent out a memo to our crisis prayer team, a group of over 90 people, who have volunteered to drop what they’re doing when they receive a ‘crisis memo’ and take a few moment to pray. I call these “stealth intercessors” as they immediately go on the prayer offensive, standing in the gap for the one in dire straits, like Greg.

At the ER, it took Greg a couple of hours to finally get through admissions and be admitted. Test began, including another X-ray of his lungs, taken on exactly the same kind of X-ray machine as at his doctor’s. Slowly Greg began feeling better and breathing much easier, when the ER doctor returned with the X-ray results. Greg was shocked as the doctor informed him his lungs were clear, not a trace of any problem. Greg instantly knew people praying had played a huge part in this healing miracle from God. He was overwhelmed with joy.

What took place in Greg’s life last week is another fulfillment of the verse in Romans, that the power of the Spirit mightily touched him, just as it did in the New Testament Church. We at Little Church are all so grateful for God’s goodness to him.

Prayer Focus This Week…

Last year Dawn Chambers restarted the Good News Club at El Morro after years of no club. This year Pastor Toby and her assistant Kori Kelso took over. Just before Christmas break, 10 kids were coming. But starting up yesterday for the new year, 21 kids signed up. I’d like us to pray for them this week.
