Becoming like Christ for the sake of others

Strengthening Our Soul 8/14/18

I work several hours a week in my back yard, walk our dog almost daily and sometimes even walk to church and back home again, an hour round trip. All of this exercise strengthens my body.

But I also strengthen my soul by attending morning prayer regularly, reading the Word, worshiping, writing this letter, and studying Scripture. These are spiritual exercises.

I have a spiritual exercise for you this week that I believe is going to be very helpful to many of you. It may sound silly at first but stay with me. If you do this, you are going to feel better and will be greatly encouraged. Here is the exercise. You may even count it as prayer…

Say out loud, 5 times a day for a week, the following affirmations slowly. I have underlined a word of emphasis…

  • “I AM FREE IN CHRIST”
  • ALL MY SINS ARE FORGIVEN”
  •  “I RENOUNCE ALL RESENTMENT”
  •  “I WILL NOT LIVE IN FEAR AND SHAME”
  •  “GOD WILL ALWAYS LOVE ME”
  • “I FORGIVE ALL WHO HAVE HURT ME”
  • “I AM BEAUTIFUL TO GOD”

Prayer Focus This Week…

  • Kevin Carr, who subbed for Pastor Sam as our lead youth leader this summer, blessing for his future as he heads back to Minnesota to continue his education. Thanks Kevin for all your heartfelt ministry.
  • Natalie Haug whose dad passed a few days ago
  • Pray for our pastors and elders and their spouses
  • Daily Upper Room prayer
  • Tuesday evening Men’s Bible Study
  • Safe return from Brazil for Pastor Sam this week
  • For all our young adults returning to college; their faith staying strong

Verse of the Week: “For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”  Romans 14:8

Question From A Friend: “If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?”

May tons of blessings be yours.
