An Unexpected Invitation
In the almost 50 years of serving God I thought I had experienced pretty much every kind of ministry possible. I was wrong. Today brought a ministry opportunity I never expected. Candise Romero, a part of Robin and Alison’s Bible study, who also has joined us for the morning Zoom meeting, called and asked if I would speak to five elderly women in an assisted living home. Candise works there caring for them. I said I would be delighted. Candise told me they had all just finished reading the entire gospel of John together. Now I call that an Holy Spirit preparation.
So she put me on a conference call and I spoke to these sweet ladies via cell phone. They had one overriding question which was, “Why did Jesus have to suffer so much on the cross?” I explained to them about the debt due sin, the love of Christ, his sacrificial death, why the blood was so important and then encouraged them all to trust Christ, to believe in Him. I prayed for them, said how happy I was to be invited to share, and I hoped we might do it again.
I pray that the words I shared might have an eternal result.
I didn’t see the ladies I spoke to but I imagine they looked something like this.
Wednesday’s Prayer Needs…
- A frontline nurse in Pennsylvania, known to a Little Church member, who has contracted the COVID virus; pray for her recovery and safety for her husband and children.
- Pray for all frontline people everywhere putting their lives on the line.
- Pray for the five elderly ladies mentioned in the story above
- Family of a young man I won’t mention by name, friend of a Little Church attendee, died of an overdose last weekend. Pray for his family, especially siblings. There is an epidemic of overdoses right now that has largely gone unreported.
Wednesday’s Scripture: “Lord, make me to know my end and what is the extent of my days; let me know how transient I am. Behold, you have made my days like a breath, and my lifetime as nothing in Your sight; surely every man at his best is a mere shadow.” Psalm 39:4-5
