Personal Weakness
“Much good comes out of any experience of personal weakness. Through it God teaches us to be humble, lowly and obedient. Humility is good in every situation because it produces a teachable spirit. Our aim should not be greatness, not the praise of men, nor the admiration of this world, but humility. We must learn to love much and seek personal obscurity. Let us talk less and do more without caring whether anyone sees us or not. Our only goal should be to glorify God. Learn to be detached from this world and completely abandoned to God. Love Him more than yourself, and His glory more than your own life.” Fenelon
** Fenelon – these are some of the most challenging words you will ever read. Personal weakness, humility, a teachable spirit, obscurity, detachment, not exactly what you’ll hear from most pulpits in America. Usually these are produced in the midst of great suffering and humiliation.
** Fenelon was one of the most gifted Christian writers of the 17th century
“Whoever then humbles himself like a little child, they are the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:4
Tuesday’s Prayer Focus – Salt Church met at El Morro school for a number of years, pastored by Gene Molway who at one time attended and ministered at Little Church by the Sea. He was a terrific leader and would join us at the National Day of Prayer. Unfortunately, Gene passed three years ago and the church eventually left Laguna and ended up in Irvine. They have just announced the church is dissolving. I’d like us to pray for the Salt Church body as the ending of a church, which often means the ending of hopes and dreams, can be very painful. May God help every member transition into just the right place.
