Staying Spiritually Strong
7 Ways to Press Into God
Most of us have a lot more time on our hands as we move through this period of isolation. But if we are not careful, we can fritter away our day with all kinds of stuff to keep us occupied, and they are all basically fine – walks, board games, some TV, working in the yard, reading, writing, cleaning, odd jobs around the house, etc. But if we are not careful, we can fall into a state of spiritual lethargy and weariness. So today, I want to suggest 7 ways to stay spiritually healthy…
- Spend alone time with God; and do this consistently, at the same time each day, and keep to it. Just you and God, seeking Him, whether in your closet, spare room, garage, or back yard.
- Read one chapter of Proverbs and five Psalms a day. At the end of one month, you will have read all the Proverbs and Psalms and will feel spiritually enriched.
- Listen to good worship music; songs you love to hear and sing; your spirit will be lifted.
- Call a sister/brother and pray together on the phone. Right now two sisters in our church call each other every day and pray for each other. Such a great idea.
- Keep thinking good, true and positive thoughts. Stay away from negative, stinking thinking.
- Call, text, or FaceTime someone and ask them how they are doing, that you care for them, miss and love them and is there anything you might do for them. You would be surprised to know how many are struggling with loneliness, fear and anxiety during this lockdown.
- Finally, a lost art – a handwritten card or note to someone. It doesn’t have to be long, maybe just a couple of short paragraphs. But written by hand, placed in an enveloped and dropped in your mailbox. Wow! What a joy to receive a card in the mail. It can change someone’s day.
You just might make someone’s day by giving them a call.
Tuesday’s Prayer Needs…
- I want us to pray for our youth, isolated from friends, perhaps lonely, discouraged, frustrated and need to start feeling good about themselves. It’s a tough time for them.
- First responders cite suicide and drug overdoses as becoming epidemic. I am aware of some who have been dealing with these issues.
- 2 friends of separate Little Church members – battling serious cancer
- Churches able to open soon.
