Becoming like Christ for the sake of others

Worship Approach & Style

Our musical approach incorporates the use of a wide variety of acoustic instruments. (Acoustic guitar, upright bass, accordion, dobro, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, hand drums, and drums with brushes are all used on a regular basis.) There is something very direct, authentic, and unassuming about these instruments, and each one adds a unique texture and voice to the overall sound.

The musical styles vary from the newest worship choruses to ancient hymns, old-time gospel, blues, bluegrass, liturgical forms of singing such as Taize, and even a gospel choir.

The contemporary worship choruses provide powerful opportunities for our hearts to connect with the heart of God, and help us to enter into an intimate experience of His presence. This is an important dimension of our corporate experience on Sunday mornings. But we also add into this, an aspect of joyous community celebration with the addition of styles that are connected to American folk/gospel traditions. And there is a dimension of deep reverence that the ancient hymns and liturgical forms of singing provide.

Our hope is that this eclectic approach to the use of music in worship broadens, deepens, and enriches our congregation’s experience of corporate praise.
