Jay Grant’s message on Luke 1:39-56
Sermon Notes:
When Life Doesn’t Make Sense
1. Understand life can change in a second. “Suddenly moments” invade our life. What happens to us can make no sense. No better example of this then what Mary experienced.
2. It’s natural to be a little overwhelmed, troubled, even perplexed when the change hits us. Mary was. But we need to keep trusting God when we don’t know what’s going on.
3. Jesus and the Scriptures promise us there will be difficult days (John 16:33). We should not be surprised. This is a difficult day for Mary when she realizes she’s going to be pregnant and unmarried. Each one of us will have seasons of trial.
4. Most important is our response. Are we going to trust God, believe the Scriptures, remain true and steadfast and persevering or are we going to fall apart, complain and kvetch, self-medicate or find some other escape. Mary fully accepted what came her way.
5. Finally, we all need an Elizabeth, that very special person we can share with when we’re stressed, confused and overwhelmed. Someone we love, trust and whom we can tell anything. Mary had her Elizabeth. Do you?
